PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The aim of the project is to strengthen the Chiles – Mataje Altitudinal Bio-corridor, which is part of the Cotacachi – Awá Conservation Corridor, and will guarantee interconnectivity between the Awá Territory (ECU 70), the Golondrinas Protected Forest and El Ángel Ecological Reserve. This project proposes to achieve the following:

  • The consolidation of the Awá Indigenous Territory (ECU 70) through the zoning and delimitation of conservation areas (for entry into the Socio Bosque program), forming internal conservation corridors and the assurance of land tenure, territorial management and governance, thereby securing the protection of the community areas and conservation of endangered/threatened species.
  • The formation of a provincial “Area for Conservation and Sustainable Use” (ACUS) which guarantees connectivity between different established conservation areas and the incorporation of new areas.
  • The formation of an integration authority, dialogue and governance between the actors involved in the Chiles – Mataje Altitudinal Bio-corridor, including ACUS, indigenous organizations, local governments and civil society organizations.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The focus of the project is to work on a community and participatorial planning proposal that is articulated with the management plan of the Mache Chindul Ecological Resere, the PDOT of the Caton Muisne and the PDOT of the parishes of San Gregorio, Chamanga and Cube. The purpose is to promote synergies in the reconstruction efforts and opportunities for communication between different actors working in the region.

To this end, the current state is based on a process of conservation of the natural resources in the area that are part of the Socio Bosque Program, generating proposals for sustainable production alternatives to reactivate the conomy of the locality after the earthquake and reduce the pressure and exploitation of the resources of the Reserve.
