III BIRD FESTIVAL IN SALINAS - IMBABURA

During February 28th and 29th, the III BIRD FESTIVAL took place in Salinas, which is part of Ibarra canton, located in Imbabura province. The main objective of this festival is to develop a census of the birds that exist in this place. This festival will act as a guideline to create environmental awareness and to promote the knowledge of the dry forest birds that belong to the Binational Mira Mataje Basin.

Forty-five people attended the festival. It is worth saying that these activities are important because people get to learn more about the diversity of the ecosystems in Mira’s river basin. These ecosystems provide different benefits like carbon sequestration. It is also the home to specific dry climate flora and fauna species.

In the festival, people from different provinces like Carchi, Imbabura, and Pichincha participated. They were interested in knowing how important plants and animals are to keep the balance in nature. They were also amazed by the landscapes.

MacArthur Foundation financed this event.
